We had English Setters during my growing up years that were able to roam far and wide in the Eastern Oregon desert. Now my husband and I have an English Setter here with us in the city. Even though a dog seems to be happy wherever his master is (like you said), I still think our dogs were happier when they could wander any where they chose. We just bought 30 acres in the middle of no where. Our dogs have never been happier. Now we have an active breed (Brittanys), so we have always exercised them, but we have finally seen them worn out.
